Just showing GT a "tuned" Rom I just received
« on: January 16, 2012, 01:34:06 PM »
Well Gt we have already seen 1 botched tune now here is another. I received this rom from a TGC member who is doing work for a 3g guy. He needed some assistance with the immobilizer delete. So he sent me the ROM so I could match with a xml.

I have compared the stock evo 8 rom with the same ID

Steve 3g is the name of the rom I received

I was told these are the mods  evo8 turbo 16g  exhaust 440 cc wrx Injectors, 255 fuel pump. The guy is going to take it to Jester to tune, my wonder is where did its current tune come from?

What do the 3d Maps look like. Just looking at the cells it seems like there are a lot of peaks/drops within the tune.

Pretty nasty, like the rockies. The stock evo rom is alot smoother

Its not my tune, I would not stand for that!!!! And it would be up in my case =P

He said he did not know where the tune came from nor does the owner know  I have a sneaky suspicion that he did it but wont fess up to it.

MRG are you sure is the right xml for his rom? it looks like a few cell are wrong due to a bad location. If you look at the load cell is wrong. i dont know about the rest. Matt is right there a few wave or peak drop on the tune.

I didnt even notice that. Yeah I opened it and looked at the rom ID number and matched it with a xml. That shit is weird, it looks like its a thephra mod but not all of it. Hmmmmm, I do have the tephra xmls so it should have came up with it.

Load cells look fine. One is of the Evo VIII and the other is a modified Evo VIII just with load values scaled differently thats all.

still the wrong location for the load. it has the same resolution as the evo, that is why it shows fine on the data. But the location on the xml is wrong for load. unless they change the hex value for that location.

Some rom could have the same id but different location for some load and rpm values but it will have the same central data. I had a few rom like that.

What do you mean wrong locations?

Load Rescaling is all it is, Evo community has been doing just that for years on their stock ROMs to expand the load range for higher boost instead of 0-260, they rescale it to 0-300. Same thing is being done with the Big Maps patch for the V6 models not running boost, simply rescale the load values to increase the tuning resolution for an N/A application.

I know Matt thanks for the lasson again, i think by know i should know about roms, ecuflash and mods :). Is it me or the picture is bad his load goes only to 135? Not 260 or 300.  That dont matter because like i said on less someone changed the load hex on the rom the ecu still reading 260 load. But ecuflash is seeying the wrong load beacuse the xml is poiting to the wrong location on the rom and is showing 135.

I talked to the guy who I got the rom from, and he said it is doing on his end too. So its not just my xmls and stuff.  He found out who tuned it and it was the tuners first tune(who was a friend of his) I just asked him if he had a custom xml made for the ROM, so it will clear the air about this discrepancy we are having here.

This is probably what was done

INstead of scaling it up to 360 he scaled it down to mimic a big map resolution on load columns

Dude, you need to sit back and relax. The Load values have been re-scaled, the EXACT same thing that I KNOW you TDM boys have done with the Big Maps stuff for N/A. Why would you scale the Big Map to 300+ load on an N/A application and lose resolution for tuning N/A? Why would you Re-Scale the load values on an OEM Evo VIII ROM to go from 0-260, to 0-300?

Sure the ECU will read more load on a boosted application, especially in excess of the shown 135% Load, all the ECU is going to to is try and compensate for ignition and fuel adjustments that are not set beyond the maximum Load value, hence why Evo VIII owners have re-scaled theirs to a max of 300% load and not 260%, no ROM editing, or XML...go to EvoM forums and search for load re-scaling. There are how-tos and other documents made specifically for doing this by simply changing the values.

On an N/A application, such as the OEM Eclipse/Galant ROM you will also find they have a max load value of 400, why? It is a saftey "net" so to speak for the ECU to make adjustments in case the ECU should see a load beyond 100% for any reason.

Nothing on the XML is wrong, it is an Evo VIII ROM, with re-scaled load values....period!

Thank you for posting the link Matt, that will clarify what I mentioned before about the load re-scaling.
