ECU Question
« on: June 07, 2009, 01:17:31 PM »
Ok im building up my 2.4L with a compelete eagle roatating assembly rated at 600+hp(made for an evo 8).The jp pistons are forged at .20 over for a 4g64. Throwing on an evo 8 head, evo 8 fuel injectors and basicly everything else evo 8. It will also be turbo charged with either a full HKS set up or a full Garret set up. Now can i put in the evo 8 ecu or what can i do with mine? I was told i could get a custom one made up but i dont want to spend thousands to do this. Any ideas what i should do with my ECU?

you'd wanna talk to johnathansgalant about that, he has the Galant/Evo 8 dual ECU setup currently.
check road race engineering's site too for the evo 8 pin layout as well.  club3G.com has the Galant/Eclipse pin layout.

if you do the swap, you should be able to read loads over 100% (boost) with no problem, and some have their 5 speed tranny swap running off the evo ecu as well.
once again, talk to johnathansgalant about it. good luck :)

hks uses garrett chras.

you say you dont want to spend thousands but what your trying to do will cost $20k+ right? will you be paying a shop to do the work for you? then the price will be much higher.

if you swap to a 5spd (definate reccomendation with your proposed setup. due to cost and lifespan) you can run the evo ecu by itself. otherwise as run said you can run it as a dual ecu setup

either way i suggest getting a boomslang harness to simplify the install and make it reversable for that matter. i believe the conversion harness runs somehwere around $200 or so....there was also an issue with one wire that needed to be switched but if it wasnt corrected yet then there is info on which one it was

speaking of the boomslang harness, i was talking to GOOSEY2099 about that. here's some sites i was checking out for that...  (sorry for threadjacking, i'm kinda looking for an extension harness for my dual setup)

Jonathan isn't running the dual ecu if I remember correctly. You don't need to run dual ecu and you can run the evo ecu or the eclipse ecu and flash the evo rom into it

As far as using the boomslang transition harness I think it's a waste of money cuz unless you decide that you wanna strip the car and bring it back to stock and sell it then there isn't no need for it really

yes, jonathansgalant is running dual ecus. the dual ecu is for if youre running auto transmission and u want to tune for boost with ecu flash. the boomslang harness is needed because you only have about 2" of slack to play with for the ecu harness. it is a PITA to cut splice and solder while upside down. and you have to do this for all 100 wires. plus you can easily turn your car back to stock by pulling out the boomslang harness

aha so i was partially right cuz i remember him talkin about swapping the auto tranny to a manual tranny which then he wouldnt need the dual ecu setup

yeah, when you go manual, you don't need the pins for the gear solenoids and the torque converter (which are in the Galant ECU). Unfortunately, i'm still auto :(

yes i am auto running dual ecu's..    If your building the motor for 600ponies u will need more than evo injectors and turbo setup --  but on the ecu note  u can run the evo ecu by itself as they said, if u are going manual tranny but otherwise you will need the stock ecu with the evo ecu.    The conversion harness last time i checked is like 300 from boomslang but its worth it.  When u get done with ur harness it will be easier to buy a car than to resolder all that crap together to be stock..

Now if u wanna spend money and be able to support 600+ many would say buy the aem ems but u can use an evo ecu till you have no more traction and figure out u need 4 wd or massive slicks to drive to winn dixie..

right  ^

the harness im talking about is not listed but they will make it custom for 300.   Email them --  the harness will be a Y harness in that you can cut wires that dont need to be and ur done pretty much...     The primary end will connect to ur stock harness and split into two sets of harness connectors - one for evo and one for stock ecu.

thanks guys, email sent. :)

to the OP: sorry again for jacking your thread.  obviously you can see i'm gonna put an evo 8 ecu into my car with my current Galant ECU (since i'm still auto). you can do the same so your car can have mapping tables over 100% load from the EVO ECU, and still be able to read the needed automatic trannsmission information from the Galant ECU.
