HIDS 101
« on: May 20, 2009, 10:17:34 PM »
Some background first - "HID light sources also create a blue-white light that is safer because it is closer to natural daylight. The color temperature of daylight is approximately 4200 K compared to 3200 K for halogens. The improved illumination output from a 35 watt XENON HID lamp is roughly 80% more light then a 55 watt halogen bulb.

Color Temperature is a measurement in Degrees Kelvin that indicates the hue of a specific type of light source. Many people believe the misunderstanding that color temperature is a rating of the brightness of the bulb or HID kit. This belief is completely false. The reality of the matter is that the higher the color temperature, the less useable light output you will obtain. Higher K kits such as 7000k, 7500k, etc. have been manufactured for individuals that are more concerned about the actual color output of their lights as opposed to the actual useable light output they produce."

Color Chart:

3000K Yellow
4300K White/VERY Faint hue of yellow.
5000K Pure White
6000K White/With Touch of Blue
8000K BLUE
10000K Bluish purple fainting towards ultra violet
12000K Purple with ultra violet mixture.

Stock Galant Headlight Bulb: H4
Stock Galant FogLight Bulb: 880* for HIDS

JDM HEADS Bulbs:
JDM LOW: H7
JDM HIGH: H1
JDM FOG: H3

What does BiXenon mean?

-High/low HIDS, stock H4 bulbs are duel filament meaning 1 bulb acts as high/lo. So if you just buy a standard HID kit, you wont have HIGHBEAMS. Some will say I don’t need high beams, since the HIDS are bright enough, but that’s your call. I personally would spend the extra money and buy BIXENON so the lo/hi are both HID. BIXenon is only for stock H4 applications, JDM have separate bulbs for high & lo.

*This thread is not for discussing where you can buy HIDS, its simply explaining the colors & proper bulb codes for you car. Please consult with local authorities or an attorney if you wish to research the specific laws for your area for HIDS. In my opinion, if you riding around with BLUE/PURPLE lights your asking to be pulled over.

Great thread
I'd like to add gradually to this thread if its cool probably over time about retrofit info..
this picture came from HIDplanet and it is the harness setup for the 8g if you were to run a retrofit with separate hid low and standard high/bixenon
we run a positive switched setup the orange plug is 9007 plug but it is the same idea as our h4 plug..this also has the diode so that lows stay on with highs

When doing a HID harness like that, if you want to go overkill, and i really sugget you do, i'd go ahead and put 2 more fuse holder, one for each ballast.

Sure the first fuse will protect the circuit but if you give each ballast a fuse, if something were to the fuse, it will more than likely blow at one of the two lower fuses so instead of having both of your lights out, you can drive to a safe location with at least on of your lights on.

But yea, thats just me, I go overboard on things like that, and bulb grease.

as far as brands I have bought the xentec kit which I purchased from supervtec on ebay, product was great but he does not honor his warranty so stay away.  DDM tuning has one of the best HID's out there for the money! I highly suggest them for your HID's
