Just put it together last night, put an FP big 16g turbo on it and took off the cx racing small 16g that was originally on it.
On the way to the nearest gas station we got on it a bit and hit about 8psi and the car started acting funny and eventually had trouble moving under its own power. While looking at everything, the cat was almost cherry red hot (in the dark) and the idle was rough. We found one of the IC pipes had come apart from the coupler (clamps are crap that came with this pipe kit).
Would this be the reason it's running hot? This was last night just after we let the car warm up to normal temps.
Did a compression test, all 4 cylinders are 180 lbs. Just making sure =P
I know it's in need of a tune so I went and bought evo scan for my tuning laptop. I'll monitor the data and see if there is any knock present and go from there I guess.

Man, this 2G seems haunted. Hope it's something minor.

With my experience of owning now 3 2G's they suffer from overheating with a FMIC. I always put in a lower temp thermostat, even with the VR-4. The things I would do is check the make sure the cooling fans are coming on at the right temperature, replace ALL clamps with T-Bolt clamps and yes the cheap ones on eBay work, trim up behind the bumper so more air can get to the radiator, and lastly when you fill the coolant make sure all the air bubbles are out.

alright, we actually ordered a bunch of t-clamps last night =P
Do I need to install a S-AFC? I guess dsmtuners says the apexi brand works the best? I thought the ecu managed the air and fuel.
Side notes:
Hallman pro manual boost controller is installed @ 10-12psi
Fuel Lab manual fuel pressure regulator is installed @ 38-40lbs

Even though we spoke in the chat here's what I would do.
Fuel:
For the 580cc injectors and Walbro 255
1. Go back to stock fuel system and adjust fuel pressure to OEM or a couple PSI above
2. SAFC
3. MAFTgen II or Pro
4. DSMlink + EPROM ecu
For the IC/Boost:
- Switch everything to T-Bolt clamps, don't overtighten as you'll strip the nut.
- Use 4 ply couplers, don't be cheap about it
- Make sure inside of coupler and outside surface of the IC pipe is clean before assembling, just use rubbing alcohol or brake cleaner to clean them.
- Ziptie the ends all of the vacuum lines you move or add such as the boost controller
- Build a boost tester and use a water/soap mix to check for boost leaks.
Cooling:
- Upgrade the thermostat to 150 if you can find it or a 160 from an auto parts store.
- Trim behind the bumper meaning the crashbar, plastic shroud, and whatever else may be back there.
- Ensure fans are coming on at the right temp if not replace the temp sensor
- Upgrade to slim fans and aluminum radiator
- Make sure there is no air bubbles trapped in cooling system. Let the car reach operating temperature with the rad. cap off and let all the air bubbles come out, after shut the car off and top off the coolant.

Thanks for the info Reggie.
Here's a quick video of how it runs now. This is just going through the gears on the lift:

Gave the GSX a mild tune. It does not backfire anymore + 0 counts of knock =0 and I added a launch control! I love ecuflash!
