PLEASE HELP ME

Postby foxbrand » Mon Jul 26, 2010 4:24 pm

My car has been running somewhat badly lately, inconsistant idile, poor throttle response (I had to floor it to go over 30, it just down shifted and didn't go faster), low idile, the last time it ran worse than it did now, I through in some fuel cleaner in a tank full of 93 octane and that completely fixed the problem, but now, it is returning, and I have cleaner in the tank now with 93, I think it is the fuel filter, which is in the gas tank, but when I called the dealership, they said that it was a 'none survicable part and is intigral to the fuel pump', to me, this seems like a pile of steaming bs, aren't filters by definition supposed to be replace? I know that I can get to the fuel pump by taking out the rear seats, could I just put in a pump/filter combo from like a v6 Eclipse or Diamante? PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

What car are you running? The filter can be replaced seperately, that is if you can find just the filter as they usually are sold with the pump only. It definitely sounds like it could be a bad fuel filter though and if you get that changed it will probably run much better. I may have a spare filter sitting around I could send you, it is used however still in good condition to use. If you want it shoot me a PM with your address and I will mail it out to you, it will save some money and help pinpoint the issue before you spend more money

My Galant is almost entirely stock sans Weapon R Secret Weapon intake and custom manifold back 2.5 inch exhaust with a resinator and a 3.5 inch exhaust tip, my car has gone through a very long, slow tuning process, my dad got the exhaust 4 years ago when he was driving it, I got the intake in the late winter this year, I should also point out that my fuel econamy is on the floor even when I drive conservitivly, maybe 13 mpg, agressively, 14 mpg (yes I now that shouldn't be possible) when I got my intake, the econamy spiked to 17 to 20 mpg (though bizzarely, the 20 mpg was after drag racing), SPD, I will send you my info shortly, thanks for helping out, but do you know how I would change it out?

From the fuel rail..have you followed the fuel feed line and see if the fuel filter is on the firewall of the car. Not sure where it is on the 8g..but I am used to seeing it on the firewall in Mitsubishis.

Remove lower back seat. Center metal panel with wires running to it, remove that and there is the fuel pump assembly (where the filter is placed). Pick up a Chilton's manual if you need to, it is good reference for this stuff.

Thanks, those are the 'in tank' filters right? Not a true in tank filter, I can get to it if I take out the back seat lower cushion.

I don't know about other sources, but where I work it shows up non-servicable. It is part of the fuel pump assembly.

Well since you work at a dealership, I don't have anything against you since you, but that's the steaming pile of bs the dealership by me gave me, could I remove the fuel pump and fuel filter and clean the filter with 'seafoam'? Apperently this stuff can clean off gunk from basically anything that is patrolium based

Solved it! Since my mom is out of the house, I have been able to clean my air filter, I let my 'lant idle for a while without the air filter, it was a lot more stable and idiled a bit higher (at about 900-800 rpm), I also tapped the gas, the revs shot up to 2000 rpm then the revs dropped (the exhaust backfired) to about 600 then rose smoothly to 800 rpm

Ok, another problem, squeeking in the rear suspension, I got the rear shocks replaced recently, this made this noise go away for a while, but that sound has returned, could this just be the body creeking?

You should notice a difference between the body creaking and the shocks squeaking. It could be some dried worn rubber mounts if they haven't been replaced. Being that you have replaced your shocks it would be hard to believe that would be the problem.

It's definently in the rear suspension, could this also just be a bushing in the suspension? Or could it subframe bushing?
